Elective waiting list removals and resident doctors' strikes

Hi, I would like to request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act. This section of the FOI relates to elective waiting lists: Felicity/Andrew please see question 1 to 4 below. 1. Please confirm whether there have been any cases at the trust in which patients were found to have been removed from the elective waiting list in error at any point since 1st January 2023. 2. If yes to question 1, please if possible answer the following questions: a. How many patients were affected? b. Were they adults, children or both? c. What speciality or specialities of medicine were affected? d. When approximately were the patients removed? e. When approximately was the error established? 3. If yes to question 1, did the trust carry out any review or independent investigation into the error of patients being wrongly removed from the waiting list? If so, please provide details. 4. If yes to question 1, is the trust aware of any patients coming to harm as a result of being removed from the elective waiting list? Please provide details. CPO/Duncan - Please answer the below. This section of the FOI relates to the resident doctors’ strikes: 5. Please confirm the highest amount paid to a consultant doctor to cover a resident doctor’s shift at any point during the resident doctor strikes since 1st January 2023 (including the junior doctor strikes as they were previously known) to the most recent date for which figures are available 6. Please confirm the rate paid per hour and the total rate paid per shift (for question 5.). 7. Please also confirm: a. the length of the shift in hours b. the approximate date c. whether it was a day shift/night shift/weekend shift.

1. Please confirm whether there have been any cases at the trust in which patients were found to have been removed from the elective waiting list in error at any point since 1st January 2023. - ZERO

 

2. If yes to question 1, please if possible answer the following questions:

a.           How many patients were affected?

b.           Were they adults, children or both?

c.           What speciality or specialities of medicine were affected?

d.           When approximately were the patients removed?

e.           When approximately was the error established?

3. If yes to question 1, did the trust carry out any review or independent investigation into the error of patients being wrongly removed from the waiting list? If so, please provide details. – N/A

This section of the FOI relates to the resident doctors’ strikes:

 

5. Please confirm the highest amount paid to a consultant doctor to cover a resident doctor’s shift at any point during the resident doctor strikes since 1st January 2023 (including the junior doctor strikes as they were previously known) to the most recent date for which figures are available

£200 / hour (unsocial hours).

 
6. Please confirm the rate paid per hour and the total rate paid per shift (for question 5.).

Bank rates for Consultants’ additional work during Industrial Action are £150 per hour during core hours (7am to 7pm M-F) and £200 per hour during unsocial hours (7pm to 7am M-F; all hours Sat/Sun).

See Q7 for total rate paid for the longest shift. Standard shift is 12 hours long. Standard shift worked unsocial hours = £200 x 12 = £2400

a. the length of the shift in hours
b. the approximate date
c. whether it was a day shift/night shift/weekend shift.

 

 

The longest shifts were worked as follows:

 

26/7/25 - 24 hours  - 0800-0800 (day) -  Unsocial @ £200 / hour  - Neurosurgery – Total paid £4800

26/7/25 - 24 hours - 0800-0800 (day) -  Unsocial @ £200 / hour  - Oral Maxillo Facial Surgery (OMFS) – Total paid £4800

27/7/25 – 24 hours  - 0800-0800 (day) – 1hr core @ £150/hr, 23hrs Unsocial @£200/hr -  OMFS – total paid £4750
