For Maternity services, this includes all activity as well as NZ Obstetric Medicine HRGs across inpatient, outpatient and community maternity.

For Neonatal services, this includes neonatal babies cared for on maternity ward, transitional care ward or main neonatal unit.

The costs are taken from the annual national cost collection submission for each financial year. For the FOI request, these costs represent c) as the costs include all relevant direct, indirect and overhead costs. Overhead costs will include building related PFI costs, CNST and, for maternity services only, maternity CNST.

Service-level expenditure is calculated following NHS England’s costing standards using patient level data and allocation statistics where these exist. The costing model at OUH is mature.
