Response

I am seeking information relating to procedures recorded under OPCS-4 code H44.1.
Please provide, for each financial year (or calendar year if more readily available) from 2016 to 2026, the following:

1. The number of H44.1 procedures performed.
66 procedures
2. The total number of bed days associated with patients undergoing H44.1 procedures. 123 days
3. The total clinical cost associated with these procedures, where recorded and available.

Data not held - Procedures (OPCS codes) and diagnosis (ICD codes) are mapped to a patient’s final Healthcare Resource Group (HRG) code. As each combination of OPCS and ICD codes can map to multiple HRGs, two patients who have undergone procedure H44.1 may not have the same final HRG. Equally, a single HRG can include multiple OPCS and ICD codes. As a result, it is not possible to provide a cost that is attributable solely to procedure H44.1.

If possible, please provide the above data:

*Broken down by sex.
50 procedures were in males and 16 in females.
*Broken down by age group (for example: under 20, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70-79, 80+).
Totals by age group are as below:

Please find attached CSV as requested. Date range is 01/01/2016 – 31/12/2026, we only have partial data for 2026. Please note that we have been unable to provide the cost of the specific procedure requested. All values that are provided as <5 are done so to prevent the data from being personal identifiable. This is done so under section 40(2) of the FOIA.
